French abuse victims who met with Pope Leo on September 27 said they were moved by the Pope’s empathy—with one victim saying that he made the sign of the cross for the first time since he was abused 65 years earlier.
“When he saw what state I was in, he took me in both arms,” said Jean-Marie Delbos. “I never imagined it would be the Pope holding me. It was an extraordinary moment.”
