Cardinal Pablo Vigilio David of Kalookan called upon Philippine lawmakers to enact a law against political dynasties.
The nation’s 1987 constitution called on Congress to enact such a law, but offered no deadline. In a recent ruling, the nation’s Supreme Court urged Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty.
“Congress, the Supreme Court has spoken,” said Cardinal David. “Now enact the law … Thirty-nine years is enough.”
