Court Says Chicago Archdiocese and Nuns Won’t Have to Submit to Illinois Suicide Law

Pope Leo XIV meets with members of the Little Sisters of the Poor at their home for the elderly in Istanbul on Nov. 28. A US federal court on Sept. 11 ruled that the Little Sisters based in Chicago will not be subject to Illinois’ assisted suicide law while a federal lawsuit continues.

The Catholic objectors will be temporarily shielded from the law while a federal lawsuit plays out against the state policy.
