The president of the Pontifical Academy for Life said that Catholics could support a law permitting euthanasia if one believes that it could prevent the enactment of an even more permissive law.
“From the Catholic perspective, the issue boils down to assessing whether we are dealing with an ‘imperfect law,’ to which it would nonetheless be morally right to give one’s consent, given that Parliament might instead readily approve more permissive and libertarian laws that are far more detrimental to the dignity of the sick and the value of life,” Archbishop Renzo Pegoraro said in an interview.
