AMERICA/PERU – Peruvian Bishops express their “Closeness and solidarity”

Lima – The Peruvian Bishops’ Conference has expressed its closeness and solidarity with the families of the victims of the plane crash that occurred on Saturday, August 1, in Nazca, in the Ica region, where all thirteen people on board a small sightseeing aircraft lost their lives during a flight over the Nazca Lines.
Among the victims were seven Italian citizens, two Spaniards, two Germans, and the aircraft’s two Peruvian crew members. The plane had taken off for a tourist flight over one of the country’s most important archaeological sites.
In a statement released on August 3, the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference expressed its sorrow over the tragedy and assured the victims’ families of its spiritual closeness.
“With deep sorrow we have learned of the plane crash that occurred in the city of Nazca, causing the tragic loss of human lives,” the Bishops said. “We join in prayer and solidarity with the families of the deceased, accompanying them in this time of grief and entrusting their loved ones to God’s merciful love,” the statement continues.
The Bishops’ Conference also offered prayers for those who lost their lives and asked the Lord to grant strength and hope to their families in this time of suffering.
At the same time, it called on the competent authorities to continue the investigations needed to determine the causes of the accident and urged the adoption of appropriate measures to ensure that such tragedies do not happen again.
