Vatican City – On May 25, 2026, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization , appointed Father Gregor Bregar of the Archdiocese of Ljubljana, as Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Slovenia, for a five-year term .
The new Director of the Slovenian PMS, 43, completed his university studies in physics at the University of Ljubljana in 2007. Subsequently, in October 2013, he entered the seminary of the Archdiocese of Ljubljana and began his theological and philosophical studies. He earned a master’s degree in theology in 2018 and served as a deacon in the parish of Zagorje ob Savi.
He was ordained a priest on June 29, 2019.
Since 2019, he has served as chaplain at the diocesan classical high school of the St. Stanislaus Institute, where he teaches “faith and culture,” leads spiritual retreats for students, and is responsible for sacramental preparation and personal spiritual guidance. He has worked extensively with youth. Among the various initiatives he has participated in are events promoted by the Slovenian Catholic youth organization “Katoliška mladina,” including the POTA program.
In 2022, he spent about a month in Kazakhstan as part of this program, gaining valuable experience with the missionary Church.
He was also the spiritual assistant of the parish of Brezovica, near Ljubljana , and since August 2020 to today, he has been the spiritual assistant of the parish of Ljubljana-Črnuče in the city of Ljubljana.
