New Blue Party slams anti-life, ‘left-wing’ Ford government

Paul Tuns:

Over the past two months, the New Blue Party of Ontario has ratcheted up its criticism of Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government.

On May 14, an email blast from former PC and New Blue MPP Belinda Karahalios, titled “Clear and Terrible: The PC Record on Life Issues,” condemned the Ford government’s record on life issues, including maintaining “(Kathleen) Wynne’s ‘bubble zone’ legislation” that criminalizes all pro-life expression within 150 metres of abortion facilities, “hid(ing) Ontario’s abortion data” by continuing Dalton McGuinty’s policy of prohibiting the release of any abortion-related figures, and “prioritize(ing) abortion during lockdowns” by maintaining abortion services while postponing life-saving surgeries and screenings.

Belinda Karahalios, who co-founded the party with her husband Jim, noted that the New Blue Party supports defunding abortion, recognizes the “dignity of all human life from conception to natural death,” and would work to stop the expansion of euthanasia.

Karahalios said “We are proud to be Ontario’s only true blue party that openly welcomes pro-life candidates,” noting “most of our past candidates have been pro-life.”

In a June 16 newsletter, “28K Lives Lost to MAiD in Ontario,” Karahalios noted that official data show that 28,637 Ontarians have been killed by euthanasia. “What was promised to be a rare, last-resort measure has spiraled out of control. The data show a continuous surge in euthanasia deaths year after year.” In 2018, the year the Ford PCs were first elected, there were about 1500 euthanasia deaths, a number that grew to more than 5000 in 2025.

Karahalios said, “while the federal Liberals have expanded this program, the Ford PCs have not lifted a finger to protect vulnerable citizens,” adding, “Instead of defending the vulnerable, the PCs operate as a provincial rubber stamp for the federal Liberal agenda.”

She said, “administering lethal medication to Ontarians is not health care—it is the easy way out of supplying robust palliative care and support for those with disabilities.” Karahalios explained, “For eight years, the Ontario PCs have quietly used OHIP to fund the MAiD agenda, spending taxpayer money on the expansion of euthanasia while failing to protect healthcare workers’ freedom of conscience.”

On June 2, Annie Nolan, a member of the party’s board, authored an email titled, “’Pride Month’ is here… and you know what that means!” condemning the Ford PCs’ “woke agenda” in “paying homage to Pride Month.” Nolan said, “When it comes to the “woke” agenda, the Doug Ford PCs have picked up where the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals left off.

Nolan criticized the Ford government for maintaining Liberal policies – “Kathleen Wynne’s sex-ed curriculum has now been taught more than twice as long under the Ford PCs than it was under Wynne herself” – and supporting Ontario NDP left-wing proposals by voting for the party’s Bill 67 which legislated radical critical race theory in Ontario schools. (Karahalios was the sole MPP to vote against the bill.) Nolan noted that the Ford government is now
