ASIA/BAHRAIN – Public Masses resume tomorrow, launch of a National Volunteer Platform

Awali – “Here in Bahrain, we are all well. We had an alert last night, and for the moment, the situation is calm. We will resume public Masses tomorrow, Friday, March 6. Unlike Qatar, where everything remains closed, and Kuwait, where Masses are only online, here the church is open, but gatherings of any kind are prohibited.” This is what Bishop Aldo Berardi, O.SS.T., Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia, wrote to Fides from Awali, where the Bishop’s house is located.

Solidarity and support for the Kingdom of Bahrain have been expressed by Arab and international foreign ministers, who have condemned the Iranian missile attacks against the country. The authorities have expressed their hope that the region can soon achieve lasting security, stability, and peace.

Local media also report that flight operations at Manama International Airport remain suspended due to the ongoing closure of the Kingdom’s airspace, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The airline stated that the suspension is part of preventative measures aimed at ensuring the highest levels of safety for travelers and airport personnel, in light of current regional developments. It also emphasized its ongoing coordination with the relevant authorities to closely monitor the situation.

To further protect the entire population, the National Volunteer Platform has announced the opening of registration for volunteers to support national efforts in response to the hostile Iranian attacks against the Kingdom of Bahrain. The initiative stems from a sense of national responsibility to strengthen community solidarity and the collective response during this period. Within hours of its launch, the Platform had already registered over 20,000 volunteers. More than half of Bahrain’s population, around 1.5 million people are foreigners, and the volunteer campaign is open to both citizens and foreign residents. Volunteer sectors have been identified in line with national needs and include healthcare, engineering, logistics, administration, and regulatory support, as well as other sectors that may be required. Registered volunteers will be contacted based on operational needs to ensure efficient organization and effective participation in supporting national efforts.
