Vatican City – On January 23, 2026, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization , appointed Anna Sandberg of the Diocese of Stockholm as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies of the Nordic Countries for the next five years .
Anna Sandberg was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1968 and has lived in Sweden since 1984. A devout Catholic, she is the mother of two adult daughters and a grandmother. Her personal and professional life has been formed by both her Polish Catholic heritage and the pastoral realities of the Nordic context. She holds a Master’s degree in Law from Stockholm University and a diploma in Journalism from the Poppius School of Journalism . From 2000 to 2002, she worked as a reporter, producer, and presenter at Swedish Radio, Sweden’s national publicly funded radio broadcaster. From 2005 to 2020, she served as a journalist with the Christian daily Dagen, covering Church life, ecumenism, religion, and society.
Since 2020, has served as Communications Officer for the Catholic Diocese of Stockholm, where she plays a key role in shaping diocesan communication strategies, managing digital platforms, and highlighting parish life, Catholic teaching and pastoral initiatives in a highly secularised society. In parallel , she has worked as Communications Officer with Caritas Sweden, strengthening the visibility of the Church’s charitable and social justice work through campaigns, fundraising communication, and storytelling focused on human dignity.
In 2022, she was appointed Diocesan Director of Missio in Sweden. In this role, she has organised nationwide mission campaigns such as World Mission Sunday and the Epiphany campaign for the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood, translated and disseminated the Holy Father’s annual messages for World Mission Day, and given lectures and educational initiatives on the theology and practice of mission.
Since 2023 she is also a member of the Catholic Commission for Interreligious Dialogue in the Diocese of Stockholm.
