ASIA/SRI LANKA – Resignation and appointment of bishop of Anuradhapura

Vatican City -The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, presented by Bishop Norbert Marshall Andradi, O.M.I.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Mohottige Don Nishantha Sagara Jayamanne, S.S.S., until now professor of philosophy at the Our Lady of Lanka National Seminary and provincial vicar, as bishop of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.
Bishop Mohottige Don Nishantha Sagara Jayamanne, S.S.S., was born on 25 June 1970 in Bopitiya, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Colombo. After studying philosophy and theology at the Our Lady of Lanka National Seminary in Ampitiya, Kandy, he was awarded a licentiate in philosophy at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas , Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 13 May 2000.
He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Saint Thomas in Matale , assistant to the Master of Novices and Master of Novices in Hanwella, deputy parish priest of Saint Philip Neri , bursar of the community of Pettah , and director of the Eymard Campbell House for Spiritual Exercises in Hanwella . Since 2013 he has served as professor of philosophy at Our Lady of Lanka National Seminary in Kandy; since 2021, director of the Scholasticate of his religious congregation in Ampitiya, Kandy; and since 2022, provincial vicar.
