Beijing – A group of volunteers from the Immaculate Conception Parish of the Diocese of Beijing departed early Saturday morning, November 15, to visit the Hongyang Nursing Home, run by nuns, in Renqiu, Hebei Province. The visit took place in anticipation of the World Day of the Poor and in accordance with recommendations in the papal bull proclaiming the Jubilee of Hope, “Spes non confundit”. Accompanied by assistant parish priest Jia Nannan, the group of volunteers brought winter clothing and other everyday necessities for the elderly residents, along with a donation of 6,000 yuan for the nursing home. After their stay in Renqiu, the group visited other parishes in the area.
The Shanghai Association of Catholic Intellectuals also continued its series of Jubilee pilgrimages. A pilgrimage on November 8 took them to Chongming Island. During the day, the pilgrims from Shanghai also heard about the experiences of the island’s church community in proclaiming the Gospel. A total of six pilgrimages were organized by the association during the Jubilee of Hope, including a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of St. Ignatius of Loyola in Xujiahui and to the Shrine of Our Lady of Sheshan.
