ASIA/CHINA – Eucharistic Congress in Tangshan: perpetual adoration, procession, and Eucharistic liturgy to reinvigorate the apostolic mission in daily life

Tangshan – Perpetual adoration, a Eucharistic procession, opportunities to share insights into Eucharistic spirituality, and a solemn liturgy were the focus of the Eucharistic Congress in Tangshan , which saw the participation of 45 parish communities and female religious congregations, united in the spirit of Jesus’ words in the Gospel according to John: “I am the bread of life” .
The Congress participants gathered in groups for 48 hours of Eucharistic adoration on October 25 and 26. As part of a solemn Eucharistic procession, the participants proceeded together to four places of adoration, praying that the gift of the Eucharist might nourish the faith and missionary zeal of each individual and continually renew and strengthen the Church and its apostolic work. The Eucharistic adoration focused on prayers for peace in the world, the liberation of children and young people from the addiction of smartphones and social media, and joy and consolation for all pilgrims of this Jubilee Year of Hope.
The preparation for the Congress was also a significant moment for community life. The meticulous care with which every detail was prepared reflected the fraternal communion among the baptized, united by their encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist, which can renew in each individual the zeal to proclaim the Gospel in daily life.
The Diocese of Yongping, founded on the mission of the Dutch Lazarists, was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Beijing. On April 11, 1946, the Apostolic Vicariate was elevated to the rank of a diocese by the papal bull “Quotidie Nos” of Pope Pius XII.
Today, the diocese comprises more than 40,000 faithful and about twenty priests. The female diocesan congregation dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary, founded in 1990, is active in healthcare and the care of the elderly.
