Pope Leo XIV named Archbishop Filippo Iannone on Friday as the new prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, the most senior appointment of his pontificate to date. Iannone, an Italian Carmelite who has served as prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts since 2018, fills a vacancy created in May when Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, the previous prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, was elected as Pope Leo XIV.
