Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State of His Holiness, sent a telegram in Pope Leo’s name to Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes of Mexico City as the Guadalupan Jubilee Year began.
In the message, the Pope called on the Church “to intensify the evangelizing mission, so that the light of the Word of God, the comfort of the sacraments, and the aid of prayer may reach everyone, and so that charitable and fraternal assistance to the most needy is never lacking.”
