The U.S. State Department’s Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, Humanitarian Affairs, and Religious Freedom denounced a drone strike on a Catholic Relief Services “convoy carrying lifesaving humanitarian assistance to people in Tigray,” an Ethiopian region.
“Humanitarian workers and civilian populations must be protected,” the statement continued. “We call for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian assistance to those who need it most.”
The statement did not identify the perpetrator of the attack, which came amid renewed fighting between Ethiopia’s government and Tigray separatists.
