8000 babies saved by Abortion Pill Reversal

Paul Tuns:

On Feb. 17, Heartbeat International announced that more than 8,000 lives have been saved through the Abortion Pill Rescue Network (APRN) in what it called “a significant milestone in its effort to provide immediate medical care to women who regret beginning a chemical abortion.”

APRN connects women who have taken the abortion pill to licensed medical professionals who can prescribe bioidentical progesterone. When administered soon after a woman has taken  mifepristone, the first drug in the chemical abortion regimen, progesterone often counteracts the effects of mifepristone and helps sustain the pregnancy.

The Washington Times reports, “The ‘reversal’ protocol, developed by pro-life physicians, is based on a straightforward theory: If mifepristone works by blocking progesterone receptors, administering supplemental progesterone quickly enough might outcompete the drug and allow the pregnancy to continue.” Progesterone has long been used by women at higher risk of miscarriage.

While successful reversals can occur when Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) is undertaken more than a day after beginning the abortion pill regiment, APRN says that when progesterone is administered with 24 hours of taking mifepristone, about two-thirds of the time the reversal is successful and the baby is saved.

The abortion industry claims APR does not work. The Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada calls APR “a dangerous falsehood” and the website of the Brampton Women’s Clinic falsely states that “you cannot reverse the effects of the medication (abortion pill) once you take it.”

Heartbeat International reported that as the majority of abortions in the United States and many other western countries are committed by the abortion pill rather than surgically, “inquiries to the APR hotline have continued to rise.”

In January 2024, Heartbeat International reported that 5000 babies had been saved by APR and in February 2025 that number had risen to 6000 babies saved globally, suggesting that the number of babies saved over the last 12 months (2000) is roughly double the number saved in the previous 13 months.

Jor-El Godsey, president of Heartbeat International said of 8000 lives saved that the “milestone represents far more than a number,” as “Each life saved reflects a woman who had a change of heart and was met with immediate, compassionate medical care.” Godsey said, “In a culture that moves at the speed of a click, our response must be just as fast” and “is here so that no woman who regrets starting a chemical abortion feels alone or without options.”

Christa Brown, director of medical impact for Heartbeat International, said, “Progesterone has been used in pregnancy care for decades,” and studies show that there is no increased risk of birth defects or preterm delivery.

Brown told Pregnancy Help News, that 8000 children are alive today because “Their brave mothers chose life for them despite challenging circumstances and influencers telling them that finishing the abortion is the only way.”

All of Heartbeat International’s 4000 affiliated pregnancy care centres are equipped to provide rapid response care for women who have changed their mind after taking the abortion pill. Brown said that more than 80 per cent of women who contact APRN after changing their mind are connected with a medical professional with an hour to make arrangements to be given progesterone.

In Canada, women who are having second thoughts can call Abortion Pill Reversal: A Second Chance at 1-888-612-3960 as soon as possible after taking the abortion pill or check out their website to chat online.
