AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN – Four new priests and six deacons: a significant milestone in the life of the local Church

Tombura-Yambio – Grace, faith, unity and hope animated the historic celebration of the ordination of four new priests and six deacons in the diocese of Tombura-Yambio. “This event marks a significant milestone in the life of the local Church,” said Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, expressing his gratitude to Almighty God.

The bishop also expressed his special appreciation to St. Augustine Parish, which hosted the ordination ceremony, commending the parish community for its generosity and commitment in making the historic event dignified and successful. He also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the Diocesan Curia and Administration, choirs, apostolic groups, religious men and women, priests, catechists, liturgical ministers, security personnel, service teams, and all pastoral and support staff whose dedication and discipline contributed to the smooth organization of the celebration. Recognizing the importance of collaboration, Hiiboro emphasized
that such collective support strengthens the mission of the Church.

The event was attended by the leadership from
Western Equatoria State, leaders of government institutions, civil authorities, non-governmental organizations, educators,
among others. The bishop highlighted the the cooperation between Church and State as a positive example of partnership for the common good.
In his message, Bishop Kussala called on the faithful and partners to continue supporting the Diocese, particularly the newly ordained priests and deacons, through prayers, goodwill, and collaboration. He encouraged the new clergy to serve faithfully after the heart of Christ and to become builders of peace in the country.

The prelate described this event as a moment of renewal and hope for the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio as it strengthens its pastoral mission through newly ordained ministers dedicated to serving God’s people.
