ASIA/CAMBODIA – The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians are the first religious congregation present in the province of Mondulkiri

Sen Monorom – Five days after the canonization of Maria Troncatti , and on the day the Church commemorates Mary Help of Christians, the Mary Our Help Inspectorate officially inaugurated a new presence of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians , named after the saint, in Sen Monorom, in Mondulkiri, a province in northeastern Cambodia bordering Vietnam.

Currently, the FMA are the first and only religious congregation present in the province of Mondulkiri. This marks a new chapter in the mission in Cambodia. According to the nuns, the new community’s apostolate includes, among other activities, catechesis, faith formation, support for parish activities, training of kindergarten teachers, and the management of a residence for young women living in poverty.

The first “nucleus” of the community was formed on the day of its installation, October 24, with the new director, Sister Maria Thao, a Vietnamese missionary; Sister Dory Helena Ramírez, a Colombian missionary; and Sister Marinella Xinh, a Vietnamese. They were joined for the celebration by twelve Daughters of Mary Help of Christians from various communities throughout the country.

The opening of the community was officially marked with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Pierre Suon Hangly, the first ethnic Khmer bishop in Cambodia since the Khmer Rouge era. Currently, the bishop serves as coadjutor apostolic vicar of Phnom Penh and apostolic administrator of the Kompong-Cham prefecture, to which the community belongs.
