Amman – At the end of October, the Committee of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Jordan hosted its first meeting on the theme “From the Holy Land to the World: Pilgrims and Missionaries of Hope.” “The event took place at the Our Lady of Peace Center with the participation of various religious orders, youth groups, and scouts from different regions of Jordan, in an atmosphere imbued with faith and hope,” explained Father Koubrianos Hanna Koubrianos, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the Holy Land, who presided over the opening Mass. Following the Mass, Father Ibrahim Nino, parish priest of Fuheis, gave a talk on the importance of mission and Christian witness in today’s world. The meeting’s program included various spiritual contributions, group work and discussions, as well as the screening of short films focusing on missionary experiences from different parts of the world. Finally, the participants reflected on the words of Pope Leo XIV’s appeal on the occasion of the recently celebrated World Mission Day. “I believe that this meeting, which took place at a delicate time for this region, is a small ‘beacon’ of hope. We engaged in a thorough discussion of the idea of mission and missionary work, which is an approach to reality that must begin with our fellow human beings, by reaching out to them and bringing them Christ. The meeting gave us the opportunity to explain what the Pontifical Mission Societies are, what their purpose is, and what makes them unique. It is a small step, but for us, it was the beginning of a journey that we entrust to the Lord.”
