VATICAN – Pontifical Missionary Union – PMU: In the Jubilee Year, online courses in missiological studies in French, Spanish and English begin

Vatican City – The International Secretariat of the Pontifical Missionary Union launches its online training program in missiological studies on October 24th. The courses, offered in French, Spanish, and English, were launched as part of the Holy Year and look toward 2026, the year that will celebrate the 100th anniversary of World Mission Day and the 110th anniversary of the founding of PMU. The basic program of the course was designed by Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, OFMConv, Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, in collaboration with the National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Spain, Father José María Calderón Castro, and in Costa Rica, Father Jafet Alberto Peytrequín Ugalde. The course consists of 25 lessons over 25 weeks, spread from October-November 2025 to June-July 2026. The topics covered include the following areas: fundamental, biblical, and contemporary missiology, mission history, mission theology, current missiological issues, missionary pastoral care, ecumenism and mission, missionary spirituality and maternal-feminine spirituality in evangelization, and missionary catechesis today.
“This course is intended to be an opportunity to renew the missionary awareness of all faithful and to deepen their knowledge of the Church’s missions, past, present, and future,” explains Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen. “This course fits perfectly into the context of the Jubilee of the Missionary World, celebrated on October 4 and 5, when Cardinal Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization , emphasized in his talk on mission the importance of updating missiological studies in accordance with the guidelines of the Council document “Ad Gentes” .” The course also aims to create a network among the various professors of missiological academic centers around the world, launching a global initiative with an academic-pastoral character. The lessons, which last one hour and 45 minutes in all languages, begin in French on October 24 and take place every Friday at 5:00 p.m. . The Spanish lessons begin on October 28 and take place on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. . The English lessons, for which registration is still open, begin on November 6 and take place on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. . Video recordings of each lecture will be made available for participants who cannot attend one of the lessons.
