Vatican City – Today, Wednesday, 15 October 2025, the episcopal ordination of the Reverend Ignatius Wu Jianlin took place. On 11 August 2025, the Holy Father appointed him auxiliary bishop of Shanghai, Shanghai Municipality, China, having approved his candidacy within the framework of the Provisional Agreement between the Holy See and the People’s Republic of China.
The Reverend Ignatius Wu Jianlin was born on 27 January 1970. From 1991 to 1996 he carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Seminary of Sheshan, in the diocese of Shanghai. He was ordained a priest on 22 December 1997 and assigned as spiritual director of the same seminary and deputy parish priest of the parish of Zhongshan. From 1999 to 2012 he exercised his ministry as diocesan vice chancellor and parish priest of Qiujiawan. From 2013 to 2023 he contributed to the administration of the diocese during the period of the sede vacante. He subsequently held the office of vicar general.
