Pope Leo XIV Attends Swearing-In of Swiss Guards, First for a Pope in Nearly 60 Years

On the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, 27 new Swiss Guards took their oath of allegiance in the presence of Pope Leo XIV, shown greeting a Swiss Guard. This marks the first time a pope has participated in the ceremony since Pope Paul VI in 1968.

The Holy Father was joined by a crowd of spectators watching as the 27 new members were sworn into the ranks of the papal guard.
